We’ll discuss our recent breakthroughs to treat malnutrition more effectively and efficiently than ever, how rigorous research is carried out in the most challenging and remote contexts, and why our findings matter in saving more children's lives and ending hunger for good.
Dr. Heather Stobaugh has over ten years of experience engaging in a variety of research studies, as well as technical advising for development and emergency nutrition programs around the world. She now continues her research at Action Against Hunger with aims to identify innovative solutions to managing malnutrition and improve the evidence-base behind nutrition policies and programs. Since joining Action Against Hunger in 2017, Dr. Stobaugh has been the Principal Investigator of two multi-million-dollar research projects, comprising of two randomized controlled trials and one prospective controlled observational cohort. Dr. Stobaugh also advises multiple working groups, technical expertise groups, the UN, and donors related to technical and research agendas in global nutrition science and programing. Dr. Stobaugh has a Ph.D. in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition from the Friedman School of Nutrition at Tufts University and teaches at the graduate level of Tufts.
Action Against Hunger Board Member Leslie Grant-Smith is the Northeast Sales Manager for the foodservice division of Cargill, where she collaborates with distributor partners and broker teams to drive growth across their premium product lines. With over 17 years experience in the food industry, Leslie has also held positions at Nutrisystem, Inc. where she worked in product development, sensory panels, and process audits as the Research and Development Manager, along with positions at Asher’s Chocolates and American Custom Drying. Leslie holds a Bachelor’s in Food Science from Penn State University and has attended an array of short courses and seminars to stay current on the latest research and technologies in the field. Leslie is passionate about using expertise in the food industry as an Action Against Hunger board member to fight global hunger. Her recent travel to Africa with Action Against Hunger was truly eye-opening to the advancements that have been made and the continued efforts that are critical to ending world hunger.
